Laugh Out Loud This Summer
by JoeAnn Hart
JoeAnn Hart’s debut is a comedy about the prestigious residents of a New England country club, and the upheaval caused by an invasion of a flock of geese. Bond Trader Charles Lambert accidentally kills one of the geese with an errant golf ball, causing him to re-evaluate his life and subsequently stirring up a series of crazy events among the community. Lambert’s wife is suddenly the object of scathing gossip as those around her question her husband’s sanity. And his daughter, an animal rights activist, uses the geese as a starting point to campaign for the club to go vegan.
Amid the drama surrounding the geese are subplots ridiculing the lives of the upper crust, such as the break-up of two young people, orchestrated by Arietta Wingate, designated keeper of a sacred book that’s been handed down through the years detailing all the extra-marital affairs – you know, to prevent any inbreeding among the offspring. These subplots all tie together to make a hilarious satire of the Boston elite.
Publisher’s Weekly writes: “Hart does an admirable job of developing memorable flawed characters and letting them loose in an absurd situation. The misunderstandings, unusual pairings and comic antics call to mind the twists and turns of an old-fashioned drawing room comedy.”
Her cast of zany characters makes for some of the best slapstick comedy, written just in time for your Summer vacation!
