Gardening Mania

tomato.jpgIt’s that time of year again - the weather is finally breaking, and gardening season has begun.  William Alexander’s The 64$ Tomato is a memoir illustrating one man’s quest for the perfect vegetable garden with lots of wit and humor.

After moving to the Hudson Valley, Alexander finally has the space to grow the organic garden of his dreams.  But evil forces are working against him - deer and hedgehogs lurk in the midst, just beyond his electric fence, plotting to get at his crop; bugs force him to drench his property in pesticide; landscape architects scheme to put him behind schedule.  Alexander’s tale reads like fiction and will have you in stitches; and if you are a gardener, you may see a little bit of yourself in Alexander… though you may not admit it to your friends.
